Indian Air Force (IAF) has issued a notification for the recruitment of Commissioned Officers Vacancies in flying, technical and ground duty branches through Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT) – 01/ 2017.

Courses commencing in January 2018 for grant of Short Service Commission in Flying Branch and Permanent Commission (PC) / Short Service Commission (SSC) in Ground Duty (Technical) and Ground Duty (Non-technical) Branches.

AFCAT 2017 Notification Released Eligibility Criteria:-

1) FLYING BRANCH:-
Eligibility: –
Candidates should have passed Graduate degree in any stream with 60% marks from a recognized university or institute.
OR B. Tech degree in any stream with 60% marks from a recognized university or institute.
Age limit: – Candidates should be between 20 to 24 years as on 01 January 2018.
Physical standard: – Minimum height 162.5 centimeter with correlated weight.
2) Ground Duty – TECHNICAL BRANCH:-
Eligibility: –
Candidates should have passed four year graduation/ integrated post graduation qualification with 60% marks from a recognized university or institute.
OR Cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers with 60% marks from a recognized university or institute.
Age limit: – Candidates should be between 20 to 26 years as on 01 January 2018.
Physical standard: – Minimum height 157.5 centimeter for men and 152 centimeter for women with correlated weight.
3) GROUND DUTY – Non-technical BRANCHES:-
Eligibility: –

Administration & Logistics:- Candidates should have passed Graduate Degree in any stream with 60% marks from a recognized university or institute.
OR Cleared Sections A and B examination of Associate Membership of Institution of Engineers with 60% marks from recognized university or institute.
Accounts: – Candidates should have passed B.Com Degree with 60% marks from a recognized university or institute.
Education: – Candidates should have passed MBA/ MCA or MA/ M. Sc. degree in English/ Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Statistics/ International relations/ International studies/ Defense studies/ Psychology/ Computer Science/ IT/ Management/ Mass Communication/ Journalism/ Public Relation with 50% marks from a recognized university or institute.
Age limit: – Candidates should be between 20 to 26 years as on 01 January 2018.
Physical standard: – Minimum height 157.5 centimeter for men and 152 centimeter for women with correlated weight.
Pay scale: –
For Flying Branch – Rs 82,050 per month.
For Ground Duty – Technical Branch – Rs 71,550 per month.
For Ground Duty – Non-Technical Branch – Rs 68,550 per month.
Type of commission : AFCAT 2017 Notification Released:-
  • Permanent commission: – Candidates joining as Permanent Commission (PC) officers would continue to serve till the age of superannuation.
  • Short service commission: – (A) The Engagement period for SSC Flying Branch is Fourteen years from the date of Commissioning (Not extendable).
    (B) The initial tenure for Short Service Commission officers in Technical and Ground Duty Branches would be for a period of ten years. An extension of four years may be granted subject to willingness, service requirements and availability of vacancies.
Training for AFCAT 2017 Exam: – Training is scheduled to commence in the first week of January 2018 for all courses. The duration of training for Flying and Ground Duty (Technical Branches) is 74 weeks and that of Ground Duty (Non-technical Branches) is 52 weeks at Air Force Training Establishments.

AFCAT 2017 Exam Selection Process:-

Selection process: – Candidates who are short-listed on the basis of Air Force Common Admission Test (AFCAT/ EKT) will be called for further testing at one of the Air Force Selection Boards (AFSBs) at Dehradun, Mysore, Gandhinagar, Varanasi or Kancharapara. The testing would consist of three stages as given below-
(A) Stage-I Test consisting of Intelligence Test along with other tests will be conducted on the first day. Stage-I Test is a screening test and only those who qualify would undergo subsequent testing.
All Stage-I qualified candidates would be subjected to document check to ascertain their eligibility for the branches applied for. Those candidates who either do not qualify in Stage-I testing or do not meet the required eligibility criteria would be sent back on the first day itself.
(B) Stage-II testing consisting of Psychological test, Group Tests and Interview will be conducted on subsequent days (Five Days).
(C) For Flying Branch: CPSS (Computerized Pilot Selection System) and / PABT would be administered to eligible candidates.
